6 Travel Books You Need to Read Before You Hit The Road

If you have been following me from way back when, then you’ll know I am a book-fanatic. I love getting lost in a good read, marking pages of guidebooks for excellent advice and getting lost in other peoples stories. I also love any excuse to celebrate. So, essentially World Book Day is a notable date in my diary and I wanted to share some of my favourite travel books with you.
So, here goes…

This book is hands-down one of my absolute favourites. Rolf Potts shares insightful quotes from travel experts and discusses a multitude of topics that are useful – both practically and mindfully. He goes into depth on how to get real value out of long-term travel and the people you meet on the road. When people say that you find yourself on the road, this book is your map.

Tim Ferris is the king of revolutionising of the 9-5. I love this book because it speaks to my sooooul. The 4-Hour Work Week goes into depth about lifestyle design and highlights how you can edit how you work and live to achieve a different lifestyle.
I really like Tim’s writing style too, it’s direct but informative and includes plenty of helpful tips and case studies. This book will help you get to where you want to be.

Matt Kepnes AKA Nomadic Matt is one of the original big travel bloggers, I’ve always looked up to him as a master of the craft and even completed his course Superstar Blogging. This book is great for travelling on a budget and you know you can trust it, as Matt is drawing from his real-life experience. This book is great for anyone looking to travel for a long time with a tight budget.

If anyone has watched Levison Wood’s Walking the Americas, then you’ll understand why this book makes my list. I won’t lie, I am a little bit in love with Levison (who isn’t?!), but his writing is always great. He colourfully documents his journey down the Americas, from Mexico to Colombia. Levison is a true adventure traveller and gives great inspiration to anyone looking to take a thrilling journey of their own.  He even attempts to cross the Darien Gap *covers eyes*.

I am obsessed with this book. This was one of the most memorable and relatable books I have ever read. Lauren is a great writer and documents her shocking, and quite unfortunate experiences. I love this book because its unfiltered, it shows the very hard-hitting realities that can happen on the road and doesn’t shy away from some of the scarier parts. These days, where many things are filtered and constructed to look dreamy and perfect, this book is a refreshing look into some of the crazy things that can happen on the road, along-side all of the incredible experiences.

Another book from Matt but with a different style. Matt is one of the most well-travelled people I’ve heard of and he goes into depth about his adventures with an insightful look at why we travel and what it really means to be nomadic. Ten Years a Nomad gives a great perspective of what you can learn from years away from home exploring the world, with Matt reflecting on his past adventures and everything he has learnt along the way.
