Travel: A journey of empowerment
With International Women’s Day on the 8th March, now a prominent topic in the world’s ever-changing media (and rightly so!), it has never been more vital to highlight the importance of feeling empowered and the life-affirming things that can help you to feel this way. Now I may be biased, but I firmly believe that one of these things is – yep you guessed it – travel. Empowerment is a pretty hefty topic that I honestly believe has a direct link to various aspects of travel. Pressing your nose against the window of a plane and gazing out at the expanse below is always a good feeling; not only are you pretty much floating away from all of life’s sh*t on a bed of clouds, but you’ve also got a pretty darn good view of it all, putting it into a rather helpful perspective and allowing you a mindful moment to take a step back and reflect.
Travelling is a deep breath for the soul, it allows for a brief pause in the crazy narrative of everyday life enabling you to take a moment to stop and think – a rare thing in this day and age.
Feeling empowered can present itself in many ways; one of these is realising your potential and what you are capable of, and what better way to do this than by setting yourself a goal and achieving it? Whether you’re afraid of flying or travelling solo, want to climb to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro or see the northern lights, these fears can be flipped around into goals, which – when achieved – can lead to feelings that are beyond compare. Imagine reaching the peak of a mountain as the sun rises, finally conquering your fear of planes to be greeted with the warm glow of a foreign land or making it to somewhere you have waited a lifetime to see? It doesn’t stop there, these achievements don’t just enable a feeling of empowerment, they ignite a chain reaction in your brain, building confidence, happiness and the desire to achieve even more.
So what’re you waiting for? Take the first step on a journey where the goal isn’t just the destination, but the glowing feeling of being empowered.
